About the Choir

The Liverpool Renaissance Singers is an amateur Early Music choir of about 30 singers formed in 1965 as the Renaissance Music Group. We perform music of the Renaissance and early Baroque eras, usually unaccompanied. The choir's voices include the usual soprano, alto, tenor and bass ranges, but counter-tenors and female tenors are also most welcome.

We sing two main pairs of recitals each year at Easter and Christmas, one of each in the Lady Chapel of Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, as well as a number of other recitals across Merseyside, North Wales and, occasionally, further afield. The Liverpool Renaissance Singers are supported by the School of Music of Liverpool University.

Music Director: Deborah Catterall

We are most fortunate in our Music Director, Deborah Catterall who joined us in 2016-2017 season following the retirement of Morris Davies, who was Director from 1965 to 2016.

Deborah is an Early Music specialist who was principal conductor at the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain for 10 years and vocal tutor at Chetham's School of Music.

In addition to her extensive experience as a conductor and vocal coach, Deborah is a well known recitalist, a director of opera, a regular performer and recorded soloist with The York Waits. Deborah also has a successful working relationship with the Episcopal Church of San Paulo d'Entro le Mure in Rome.
