Liverpool Renaissance Singers is Merseyside’s choir which specialises in Early Music

How big is the choir?

The choir consists of some 30 members with the usual soprano, alto, tenor and bass ranges. Counter-tenors and female tenors are also welcome.

Where/when does the choir rehearse?

We rehearse on Wednesday evenings in the School of Music of Liverpool University (82 Bedford Street South, Liverpool, L7 7BT). Rehearsals are from 7.30pm-9.30pm (with a break for coffee, etc).

Rehearsals take place during term time, September to late June, with breaks over Christmas and Easter. The Music School is off Oxford Street and is 15-20 minute walk from Lime Street and Central Stations. Evening parking is free in nearby streets

Must I be able to sight-read music?

Most singers coming to the choir have a limited experience of the repertoire. A high standard of sight-reading, though very useful, is not expected. Much of the singing is unaccompanied. To find out more about the music we sing, please visit our Composers page.

Will I have to audition?

Membership is largely by self-selection. Would-be members are not normally auditioned. Anyone is welcome to come along to a rehearsal and give it a try to see if it's for them.

Where does the choir perform?

The choir regularly gives a pair of recitals in mid-December and another pair in March, one in each case in the Lady Chapel of Liverpool Cathedral. We make a number of other appearances within local churches (Anglican and Catholic), at St Asaph Cathedral and by giving secular recitals on Merseyside, North Wales and, occasionally, further afield. Eight to ten recitals are given each year.

How much is the subscription?

The current subscription is £100 per annum (student concessions £25 per annum) which includes all music.
